Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day-That ridiculous Hallmark holiday that throws-up hearts everywhere you look, makes people scramble for dinner reservations, and makes the cost of flowers equal to that of gold-I'm honestly not a huge fan. Luckily, Jamie isn't either. We've shown each other our love for one another EVERY DAY since we've met. We go to romantic dinners, he buys me flowers, and we spend quality time together many many days out of the year. We don't go crazy with gifts and plans just because it's February 14th.
Since I am a parent (and a teacher), however, I've really learned that it can be a fun holiday to share with kids.
I had so much fun spending the first half of the month painting hearts, making heart-shaped crayons, and baking sweet things with my babies.

(Did you happen to notice that she is not wearing any pants?  Potty training goes great with crafting!)

We got out their mailboxes from last year so they could receive little love notes for a couple of weeks before Valentine's Day.
Jack was thrilled to write his very own valentines this year. He felt so good about making cards for others. He even taped a letter on the outside of our front door for our babysitter, so she'd see it as soon as she walked up the stairs.  Everyone got a valentine from Jack...even the cat.
But the sweetest thing I saw was this card sticking out of Alice's mailbox a few nights ago:
It reads: Dir Allice  I luv you
And then this one appeared at Jamie's seat on Valentine's Day:

We did have it in our original plans to go to Scoozi, one of our favorite downtown restaurants, on Saturday. But instead of making it just a dinner for two, we decided to make it a triple date with my sister Kerry, her husband Matt, my mom, and my dad. It was so incredibly fun. We all said that we should always celebrate Valentine's Day this way.
Last night, however, the REAL Valentine's Day, we did this:
Heart-shaped pizza (I admit, it was delivery...I wasn't on the ball enough to plan ahead)
I added some romantic touches to our meal.
The lantern which was the centerpiece at all of the tables at our wedding

Jack and Alice drank from their silver cups
My shrimp-lover got to eat shrimp!
She sure loves her daddy

Alice blowing a kiss to Jamie...Except she blows first and THEN kisses her hand. Kind of makes it even more precious!
Just ONE of the reasons why I love these 3--There sure is a lot of laughter around here!

My best friend and wonderful Valentine, today and everyday
